thanksgiving at christmas

Exploding with gratitude this evening.  It feels like Thanksgiving, only the calendar says it’s Christmas time.  Remember my post Divine Weekend where I talked about visiting Sprout #1 and the D-I-L’s new home in the country?   I took this sunset shot of horses in the front yard.

Today….that gorgeous new home was threatened by a wind-driven grass fire.  The news reports said the flames came within 20 feet of the home.  This pasture is blackened.
You can read about the drama here:

Prairie fires are an unwelcome fact of life in West Texas.  This time of year we experience low humidity and high winds; any grass left standing is brittle and bone dry.  We’ve had lots of livestock, horses, ranch houses and pastures threatened and damaged by wildfires.  But, geez….this feeling of extreme fear and wild gratitude is unsettling.
Life is sure a crap-shot isn’t it?  Expect the unexpected.

We’ve celebrated Christmas and we’re looking forward to ringing in the New Year, but for me…today…it’s all about Thanksgiving.
